17 years ago, Ma and Pa Carob (David and Carol Solomon) decided to do something regarded completely random in Australia. Inspired by another family member, they decided to plant carob trees. They had to wait 10 years before anything happened.
Enter Sophie Richards, aka Baby carob who decided to put Port Elliot, South Australia on the map by turning the amazing tasting carob powder into a sugar-free alternative to chocolate. And thus The Carob Kitchen was born.
What is carob you ask? Its an organic crop which tastes much like chocolate but is much better for you. Carob contains essential nutrients like vitamins A, B2, B3, B6 and D. It is an excellent source of dietary fibre and contains a wealth of minerals, especially rich in calcium and iron. Carob is 100% Natural, preservative free, with no added colours, no added flavours, no added sugars, 99% fat free, and is cholesterol, caffeine and theobromine free!!!!
It is natural sweetener, which has had a bad rap in the past due to its bitterness. This is what is so amazing about what the Carob Kitchen are doing. Their carob bars are incredible tasting. They contain no gluten, sugar or artificial flavours and hold their own against any top quality chocolate out there. As a result, The Carob Kitchen is changing the perception of carob internationally and has become the humble carob's number one advocate.
Go Aussie, go carob, go sugar free goodness!
