The many benefits of essential oils are a well-known fact. However, a lesser-known fact is that for centuries, essential oils have been used in cooking because of their potent nature and ability to enhance natural flavours. Today, you get a free bottle of pure orange oil thanks to Justine Telfer, from Seven Points Holistic Healing.  Give this cacao ball recipe a go to kick start your journey of discovery of cooking with essential oils!

  • 2 x cups almond meal,
  • 1 x cup cacao,
  • 6 x Medjool dates (soak until soft),
  • 2 x tablespoons rice maple syrup (or honey),
  • 1 x tablespoon cacao butter (melted),
  • Shredded coconut,
  • Handful of pepitas chopped finely if you want to add some crunch,
  • 2 to 3 drops of wild orange essential oil.

Mix all ingredients together in a blender, roll into balls & coat in shredded coconut. You can freeze for a week or two and defrost for 10mins when needed.

NOTE: When cooking with essential oils, a little goes a long way. Because essential oils are so concentrated, even the tiniest drop can provide a serious amount of flavour. Rather than adding an entire drop to your dish, dip a toothpick into the bottle to extract flavour and stir the dipped toothpick in with the other ingredients
